What is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)?
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a psychotherapeutic modality in which a licensed mental health professional and horses are used with individuals, families, or groups to facilitate change.
Tina S Howard, MA, ALC is a licensed counselor currently seeing clients through EAP at Little Red Barn. She uses EAP as an experiential therapy in which clients learn about themselves and others through hands on activities with the horse. The focus is on human skills, not horse skills. Specific treatment goals are identified but session are process focused. Activities can be designed to create metaphors for "real life," with sessions structured and facilitated to address the reasons clients come for therapy. Activities can be designed to work on relationships and emotional regulation by developing a healthy relationship with the horse.
You can make an initial intake appointment with Tina by visiting ccpmobile.net. Appointments can be made on line and the intake forms are available on her website too.
